Anyone speak Dutch? We got reviewed again overseas!

Another mixture Review, again overseas!

Should you be looking for the perfect background music for a restaurant, or even better in your home during a dinner with musical friends, then this "Mixture" Joey Stuckey perhaps is something for you. The blind jazz guitarist did for this album appeal the master key player Tom Rule and the equally gifted percussionists Miguel Castro and Marcus Reddick.

The result is an album with ten songs depicting the aptly named "Mixture". Applicable because the man who started as classical guitar enthusiast displays versatility one can admire. But equally applicable to the collaboration with Tom Rule is that there is usually a different musical style, keeping alive. Certainly, the overtone jazzy colored, say relaxed jazz but also gets a solo squeezed where several rock blues guitarists will be green with envy. His virtuosity on the strings will be admired by lovers of Jazz and will amaze you.

He flirts at times with sounds like Frank Zappa but also can throw in some South American influences on retrieval. An instrumental album and so all songs written by Joey and Tom Rule. An album that never disappoints if you know how to appreciate the style but also one that is already finished before you realize it. Musically class work of great musicians.

So what does Tom Rule say about Joey Stuckey's new jazz guitar MIXTURE?

If you are looking for the next classic jazz recording to add to your collection or just some great tunes to groove to, then we invite you to check out Joey Stuckey's debut full length jazz CD Mixture.

Tom Rule is co-writer of all the music on the album - and played all of the keyboards on the album. So what does HE think about MIXTURE?
What do you get when you combine the music from a blind guitarist who is "as sexy as Elvis with half the fat" with a left-handed dyslexic classically trained jazz keyboardist?

MIXTURE.

This album is a combination of experiences, talents, and musical approaches that come together to create a whole that is greater than it's parts. The music is interesting, full of ear candy, and deep yet accessible - and that's the way we like it!

Joey and I have known each other for longer than either of us care to admit, and that long association and deep mutual respect is reflected in MIXTURE's music. This is jazz guitar and keyboard  with a plethora of spices and sauces that will catch your ear and keep your feet tapping.

So kick back and get mixed up with MIXTURE!

MIXTUREcast #10: We'll See

Episode 10 of MIXTUREcast covers the first track on the new album - We’ll See. This song has a touch of John McLaughlin guitar and even some Joey DeFrancesco-style B3 playing [thanks to the Roland RD700-sx and Native Instruments Kore B4 softsynth].

This episode also features a special audio guest [or a poltergeist, depending on your point of view], and Tom once again has to translate some “Joey audio engineer speak” into plain English.

We’ll See has a great swing feel that would be excellent for a college or high school jazz combo to pick up. The charts will be available over at MacMusicGuy.com in June 2012 - http://www.MacMusicGuy.com.

There’s even some advice for music students around the 8 minute mark - PAY ATTENTION!

....and along with some gratuitous HeeHaw and Dominican Republic references, there’s mention made of an upcoming contest where you can win some free autographed stuff.

MIXTUREcast #6: Windows Down

Episode 6 of MIXTUREcast brings our intrepid musicians to the hard parts of the album...they just THOUGHT the earlier tunes were tricky to mix!

Watch and marvel as they give you the behind the scenes story of Windows Down - and experience the wonder of the guys discussing
  • poltergeists,
  • the Rippingtons,
  • Hammocks,
  • cool T-shirts,
  • mention Dr. Marcus Reddick of Mercer University [you're welcome, by the way],
  • wonder why Dr. Stanley Roberts doesn't know the difference between a circle and oval,
  • and even engage in THE GREAT PEANUT BUTTER DEBATE.
...and - oh, yeah - the music is pretty cool as well!

MIXTUREcast 4: DotDotDot

Time for yet another episode of MIXTUREcast as our fairly normal musicians embark on another epic mixdown session for MIXTURE, Joey Stuckey's new jazz guitar album on Senate Records.

You just KNOW there are puns and gratuitous references to Miguel "Not From Cuba" Castro - and even some LANGUAGE...and what's with the "Enchanted Biker Cap"?

Well, English is language. Right?

Once again our intrepid musicians - Joey Stuckey and Tom Rule - embark on a mixing session for the next track on Joey's new album MIXTURE.

This time, they're mixing Too Pooped to Bop, the first tune written for the album over a year ago....and throwing in some Fisher-price toy and an Oscar Peterson reference.
